The Centre and State governments in India are taking initiatives to promote the use of electric vehicles. Many states currently offer incentives to make them more popular among buyers. With pollution levels rising in many parts of India, the government has to take steps to bring things under control. Electric buses are highly efficient and have lower operating costs than diesel buses. Fuel savings can be significant when comparing electricity with diesel, and buses also have fewer moving parts and maintenance needs.
India’s first electricity double-decker bus was unveiled by Union transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday at YB Centre in south Mumbai. Named Switch EiV 22, the double-decker bus will be run by the Mumbai civic transport body from September.
India’s first electric double-decker bus is equipped with the latest technology, ultra-modern design, highest safety features, best in class comfort features and will start running on Mumbai streets from September 2022. The bus will have a carrying capacity of 78-90 passengers and is equipped with two staircases to ensure easy movement of passengers while boarding and alighting. The new zero-emission double-decker buses will deliver a cleaner and more sustainable future.
