Valencia, Elsinore, and Velenje earned the European Green Capital and Leaf 2024 prizes during a recent ceremony in Grenoble, France. Valencia will be Europe’s Green Capital in 2024, with Elsinore in Denmark and Velenje in Slovenia sharing the Green Capital Leaf in 2024.
Valencia received the prize for its significant and outstanding efforts in promoting green and sustainable tourism and climate neutrality. Approximately 97% of residents live within 300 meters of green urban areas.

Aside from that, Valencia’s victory is due to the successful preservation of the Devesa dune and wetland ecosystems, Albufera Natural Park, the suburban orchard, and Turia Garden.
