Life to its wholly-owned subsidiary, NIGEL – NLC India Green Energy Limited
In a significant move towards bolstering renewable energy (RE) initiatives, NLC India, a Navratna public sector company, has given life to its wholly-owned subsidiary, NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL). With its undivided focus on RE projects, NIGEL embarks on its business operations, marking a pivotal moment in India’s journey towards sustainable energy solutions.
NIGEL’s Chairman, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, envisions this new company as a catalyst for the rapid expansion of RE power generation capacity. He firmly believes that the conducive industry climate provides an optimistic backdrop for the growth of RE. Moreover, the simultaneous development of storage systems such as pumped hydro and battery energy storage further strengthens the resolve to push boundaries in green energy.
Toward a Greener Future
The subsidiary is poised to establish RE projects with a cumulative capacity of 6 GW by 2030. A substantial portion of this ambitious goal is already in progress, with 2 GW of projects under development in various parts of the nation. This considerable undertaking aligns with India’s growing commitment to cleaner energy sources and a reduced carbon footprint.
NLC India recognizes the immense potential of energy storage systems. As per the “Optimal Energy Mix Report 2030” of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the Ministry of Power, the anticipated capacity for battery energy storage systems (BESS) on the grid is an impressive 41.65 GW. This revelation underscores the substantial opportunities for storage system development. NIGEL’s entry into this arena positions it as a critical player in the energy transition.
NLC India Ltd has already taken steps to empower NIGEL. The subsidiary is entrusted with responsibilities ranging from strategic planning to active participation in forthcoming renewable energy tenders. Furthermore, NIGEL will play a pivotal role in the execution and commissioning of green energy projects, thereby contributing to the substantial growth of RE in the region.
As NLC India’s green arm, NIGEL embarks on its business operations, it heralds a new era in India’s renewable energy landscape. The subsidiary’s steadfast commitment to expanding RE power generation capacity and its entry into energy storage systems mirror India’s trajectory towards a sustainable and eco-conscious future.
